Champadevi Hiking trail is a 6 hours hiking trail on the southern foothills of Kathmandu. The trail along the 4Km ridge leads you to the popular Champadevi temple. In recent days this hiking trail got good popularity among Kathmandu dwellers. Suddenly, the area started getting spoiled with non-degradable waste made by the hikers. When our team of Save The Himalayas found the severity of pollution, a team of 5 volunteers was mobilized to clean the hiking trail. 2 volunteers from Mount adventure Holidays also joined the effort. During the cleaning campaign, the team collected around 10 Kg of non-degradable plastic waste. The non-degradable plastics were then dumped on the public container in Pharping. The team met with local residents and discussed ways of protecting and promoting the environment of the region. The discussion concluded with an informal agreement to keep the trail clean by conducting the cleaning campaigns every 3 months while Ktmguide assured to prioritize the Champadevi hiking trail in its marketing efforts.
Mr. Pasang Sherpa, the founder of Save The Himalayas, told that the organization has a long-term vision to keep the trails, mountains, rivers, and valleys clean in Nepal. He said the organization will conduct a cleaning campaign in the Langtang valley in May 2022. With more cleaning campaigns on the major trekking trails of Nepal.
